Very happy and proud to be starting a residency at -1 Minus One in Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam (NL). For a few months I will diving back into my research around DIY wireless networks and how to make radio frequencies like WiFi more tangible.

On May 31th/June 1st, I will be attending the Gentler Future Festival in Lisbon, PT. Organised by By the End of May, a lisbon based design consultancy practice. I will talk about Principles to Design a Low-tech Web and work together with Audrey Belliot on tools for a solar brunch. Stay tuned.

In April, I was in Barcelona to continue our research on bike generators and energy systems.

In May Low-tech Magazine was invited by Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen, DE to give a workshop on small scale energy systems. Together with a team of students, we —Kris De Dekcer and I— spent 5 days experimenting with solar and human power.

Took part in Fiber festival's symposium day on Practicing Permacomputing. I talked about the work we do at Low-tech Magazine and my general approach to technology — centered on energy and resource consumption.

From 12-15 of October, Low-tech Magazine was invited by the Huis van de Toekomst (a Rotterdam-based neighborhood project focused on human power) to build a bike generator as part of their energy system. We ran an (open) workshop where participants helped us build the bike and hack DC appliances to be pedal powered. Low-tech Magazine's events, where I sometimes take part, can be found on their events page.

In September, I co-ran a workshop with Kris de Decker as Low-tech Magazine, at the transitiefestival.be, in Antwerp, BE. We talked about solar and human energy and demonstrated how to build and use a direct-drive solar system: no battery, the energy is directly used to power low-voltage (hacked) DC appliances.

In the first week of July, I was invited by FabLab Barcelona to assist in the Circular City Challenge to talk about energy aware design. During the 5 days challenge, participant were tasked to tackle sustainability challenges from a design perspective. I gave a presentation on low-tech design and provided technical and creative input. This Tuesday, I was invited for a talk at the french radio Cause Commune FM in the Libre à Vous show to talk about the links between LOW←TECH MAGAZINE and F/LOSS. We discussed with Laurent Costy and Kylian Kemps from RésiLien. You can stream the podcast here.

On 20.04.2023, I will take part of a conversation around Francesca Tambussi's Hyperburgers project, at ADI Design Museum, during Milan Design Week. Together with Matteo Tambussi and Milena, we will talk about the politics of tools and platforms and imagine "How to Make a Glocal Platform?" for Hyperburgers consumer-run grocery system...

Finally satisfied enough to release this new version of my personal website. I will share some more insights about its architecture on my github soon.
For now: this website currently weighs 7.81 MB in total. It is designed to minimize energy use, based on some of the principles outlined by Low-Tech Magazine’s article “How to Build a Low-Tech Website?”. If you are curious, please reach out :)

Last week, I - or at least a filmed version of me - was part of the exhibition "Brave New Design" organised by @ecume_studio in Paris. With Caroline Guinet and Chira Valomini I had the chance to discuss about my practice, open-source design, my project Plantenna and our Treehouse project with Anna!

From the 20th to the 25th of November, I was part of a collective work session organised by Constant in Brussels, BE. Under the name "Techno-Cul-de-Sac", we explored the implications of the smart city and surveillance capitalism. Find a report by one of the member here. And my report here.
